Support with your engagement

We want you to feel supported to fully engage with your learning, so we have a number of proactive processes in place to help you reach your potential. We are not looking to penalise you - we want to ensure you are on track with your course.

We also know that life is full of challenges and unexpected hurdles to overcome, and there will always be times when illness, travel disruption, family situations, and other factors can temporarily disrupt your routines.

Here are some of the options that you may want to explore:

If you have any questions about how these options work, or which of them may be the most suitable for you, please contact your Personal Tutor / Student Success Coach.

Our reengagement process explained

When we spot signs that your engagement is dropping, we start a process to work with you to get you back on track. It's a multi-step process, and we only move onto the next step if we are unable to work with you to make changes.

This process starts at the beginning of each semester and continue throughout the academic year.

Step 1

Personal Tutors and Student Success Coaches will use data from MySurrey Engagement and MySurrey Attendance to spot students who are showing early signs of disengagement. This is why it’s also important to use MySurrey Attendance to check in at your timetabled teaching sessions.

If we see anything that causes concern, you will be contacted via MySurrey Engagement (you will receive an email when you have a notification) to see if there’s anything we can do to help. Please read and respond to these messages so that we can work together to understand and overcome any challenges or issues together and work out the best way forward.

Step 2

We repeat the process to those who we have not been able to make contact with or formulate a plan to get back on track.

Step 3

If, within a short time we have not had a response, your Senior Personal Tutor will also reach out, followed by our Student Support Coordinators in MySurrey Hive.

Step 4

If within a short time we have still not been able to make contact or there have been no signs of an improvement in engagement, we move to the first formal warning via email, followed by a course termination letter as an absolute last resort.

If you would like a more detailed explanation of this process, you can read our C7 Attendance and Engagement Procedure.
