Ways to get involved

The University of Surrey and the Students' Union have many opportunities and activities for you to get involved with – ranging from sports clubs and societies, to jobs and volunteering. All of them provide a great way for you to make the most of your time at Surrey, enhance your CV and make new friends.

Sports

There are several ways you can get involved with sport and fitness at Surrey. Whether you are a keen gym user, competitive sports person or prefer something more casual, you can benefit from a range of activities and facilities:

Extra-curricular activities
  • Course Reps: an opportunity for students to volunteer for the Students’ Union and the University to encourage students to provide feedback on their student and learning experience.
  • Duke of Edinburgh's Award: students can gain recognition for extra-curricular activities that contribute to personal and skill development.
  • Professional Skills Award: a free course for students to enhance their employability and build confidence as they enter the world of work.
  • Employable Me: this is the Students' Union initiative equipping Surrey students with essential skills and experience for life post-university.
  • Global Graduate Award in Sustainability: a free course for students to discover more about the range of issues that are encompassed within sustainability. 
  • Professional Training placements: an opportunity for students to complete a work placement to gain real-world professional experience.
  • Professional Training Placement Coach: if you have completed a Professional Training placement, you can become a coach to help other students prepare for their journeys.
  • Study abroad: an opportunity for students to study abroad and complete a study exchange at a partner university around the world.
  • Student Enterprise: a programme and facilities to help budding entrepreneurs launch an idea for a business or social enterprise start-up.
Campus jobs
  • Student Ambassadors: a fun opportunity for students to represent the University at external and internal recruitment events eg campus tours and open days.
  • Students' Union roles: students work in roles in retail, administration and bar work, with full training and hours that work around your studies.
  • University/campus roles: often the University advertises roles via the Unitemps service.
Volunteering

Volunteering is a fantastic way to get involved at university and make a difference. There are many volunteering opportunities listed on the Students' Union Surrey Volunteering website. You will need to register online with the Students' Union first.
