Monitoring your own engagement
The University collects data to help you reflect on how much you are engaging with your learning, and so we can see where additional, targeted support may be needed.
We use two digital tools, MySurrey Engagement and MySurrey Attendance, to generate the data we need to look out for signs that you may need a little extra help. We also give you access to the same information so you can also review and reflect on your own engagement.
How should I monitor my engagement?
MySurrey Engagement is a web-based app that gives you information about how much you’re engaging with your learning and enables you to reflect on what you could do to improve.
You can access it throughout your time at Surrey, and it pulls together several data sources including your attendance score to give you a single, easy to understand engagement rating.
We recommend visiting MySurrey Engagement at least a couple of times a week during the semester and speaking to your Personal Tutor / Student Success Coach if you would like advice on how to make improvements.

How does the University help me track my attendance?
MySurrey Attendance is the app that we use to help you track your attendance with a few simple taps on your phone. All you need to do is check in when you attend a teaching session or mark your absence if you have missed one.

How does the University monitor my engagement?
We also reflect on your overall engagement and have processes to help us spot students who may need a helping hand. All we ask is that, when we reach out to you to offer help, you respond and work with us to find solutions.
