What do the team do?

The Campus Safety team are here to ensure that everyone that lives, works, studies, and plays on campus, is safe. Life at University can be challenging at times, so the team are here to support you when you need it.

The team can support you in a lot of ways. They:

  • Listen to any personal safety concerns that you may have
  • Work closely with the Centre for Wellbeing, emergency services and/or external support teams to ensure you can receive support as and when you need it โ€“ even in the middle of the night. These may be concerns and questions about: sexual harassment and sexual assaults; stalking and domestic violence; hate crime; mental health and wellbeing concerns; drug/alcohol abuse and/or addiction
  • Provide First Aid โ€“ including the use of epi-pens and defibrillators
  • Give advice on your personal safety and how to keep your property safe and secure.

When and where can I find the Campus Safety team on campus?

The team are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This includes all weekends, bank holidays and during University closures.

You can speak to the team at Senate House Reception on Stag Hill campus; between 9am-5pm you can speak with a member of the team by informing the reception staff. Outside of these hours, you will need to call Campus Safety or use the intercom system situated just outside the main doors to Senate House if you wish to speak with someone.

You can also find the team patrolling all our campuses (including Hazel Farm campus). They will be on foot or in their vehicle with the University of Surrey logo on the side.

Please note that the Campus Safety team do not manage the Rubix nightclub - this is an external security team.

Thank you letters

Student: "I would like to thank you all for your support during this difficult time for me. I have been able to get better with your words of encouragement and help, you may not know it, but you have saved me in many situations. Thank you so much for your continuous support and I hope that I can do the same for you all too."

Student: "I would like to draw your attention to the efforts of Jon and his team along with the wardening team, who have supported me over the past weeks and especially last night during a time of emotional need and will no doubt be happy to help in the future.

They all went above and beyond what was required of themselves and ensured my safety during an extremely difficult time."
