Physical wellbeing

Your physical health has a huge impact on your wellbeing as a whole. From getting more exercise, to eating well and getting a good night’s rest, you’ll see big changes in how you feel. Try it for just a few weeks and see the changes.

Make time to exercise

Surrey Moves

Join SurreyMoves+ where you earn points and get rewards for being active. It doesn’t matter if you are simply walking to and from lectures, going for a jog around the lake or playing sport with your friends, it all counts towards you aiming for some great rewards!

Surrey Sports Park and Team Surrey

Based at Surrey Sports Park on the Manor Park campus, Team Surrey is the heart of all sport and physical activity at the University. Whether you’re looking to represent Surrey in your sport, try out a new gym class, or even just enjoy walking to lectures, Team Surrey has something for you.

Exercise referral

The links between physical movement and improved mental wellbeing is heavily supported by research evidence. Centre for Wellbeing in partnership with Surrey Sports Park would like to invite you to attend the free, weekly Low Intensity circuits and stretch class for students, taking place on Tuesdays at 3pm at Surrey Sports Park.

No induction required- just email centreforwellbeing@surrey.ac.uk expressing an interest, saying you are a University of Surrey student and then you’ll be invited to register with the sports park.

There are 30 places in the class per week, and these are on a first booked first served basis.

You can boost your physical wellbeing through exercise, why not build exercise into your daily routine and try the campus tree and 3k walking routes.

See the wellbeing map (PDF) for the routes.

Eat and sleep well

Maintain a healthy diet

Maintaining a balanced nutritious diet is key to not only helping you to stay physically healthy but also to improving your mood, helping your concentration and improving your energy levels.

Whilst it is important not to drink too much alcohol or eat excessive sugar and saturated fat, it is equally important to eat regularly without skipping meals and not to restrict yourself with unattainable rules.

Get enough sleep

A good night’s sleep makes a huge difference to our health, mood, memory and stress levels. It can sometimes be elusive, however, for all sorts of reasons. If poor sleep becomes a regular pattern, help is available to improve it again.
