Our ‘Happy to Chat’ bench

We wanted to create a space whereby you can chat with friends, make new friends, or even simply catch eyes with someone for the first time that day. We know how important these things are for our personal wellbeing, and we want this bench to be a symbol of hope, highlighting how none of us are alone when on campus. 

So, you’re probably thinking, where can I find the bench and what does it look like? Well, firstly you can find the bench sitting in the Amphitheatre on Stag Hill campus, right outside the MySurrey Hive. The bench is bright blue and covered in bees, so you can’t miss it!   

Here are a couple of tips for when you’re using the bench:  

To those on the bench 

There is no need to have a conversation with someone when sat on the bench (if you don’t want to), it can simply be a place where you take a five-minute break within your busy schedule. If you want to sit with a friend though, please do! 

To those passing by the bench 

If you are passing the bench, we would love for you to take just two seconds to give anyone sitting on the bench a quick smile. The difference a smile can make to both of your days is huge. And if you really want to, go and sit with them for a couple of moments and ask how they are doing - they may even ask you the same question.
