Software and training

As a student at Surrey you will have access to a range of applications and web services required for your studies. You are also eligible for offers and discounts on Apple, Microsoft and Dell products.

Accessing University of Surrey approved software is simple.

To install University of Surrey approved software onto your personal device, download software from SharePoint here: UniApps.surrey.ac.uk.

If you are using a PC in a lab, teaching applications will already be installed. To check what applications are on a Windows lab PC, follow these simple instructions.

Software offers

Apple Store for Education is available to university students, students accepted into university, parents buying for university students, teachers and staff at all levels.

To access the Apple Store for Education:

  1. Visit the Apple Store for Education
  2. Select your institution from the drop down list (South East, Surrey University)
  3. You will now be able to browse products at discounted prices.
Dell VIP Club for personal purchases

Students and staff at the University of Surrey can benefit from discounts on personal purchases from the Dell Home consumer store.

 

Microsoft Student Store

Students, parents, teachers and their families can save 10% on select products from the Microsoft Store. Products eligible for the academic discount have a special student price.

Installing Microsoft Office 365 for free

You will be able to download Microsoft Office applications completely free of charge, for the time that you are a student or member of staff at Surrey. Each subscription license allows you to run Office on up to five machines being Windows or Mac. You can also run Office Mobile for Android or Office Mobile for iPhone on up to 5 mobile devices.

The Microsoft Office offer is a full version of Office which includes Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, OneNote, Outlook, Publisher and Teams.

You can install/download the Microsoft Office Applications pack supported by your University license by following the instructions below:

  1. Visit surrey365.surrey.ac.uk (login using your username@surrey.ac.uk (e.g ab12345@surrey.ac.uk) and your password)
  2. Open your email
  3. Click on the 9 dots at the top left
  4. Select ‘Office 365’
  5. Download/install the new version
  6. Log into the new version.
Leaving the University

When you are no longer a student or member of staff at the University, you will need to purchase a license or subscription directly from Microsoft to continue to use the programs on your devices, or you can uninstall them when you leave.

The documents which you have created will still accessible and can be opened in other programs capable of opening those files types.

Online Learning Directory

The Online Learning Directory is a digital training resource that has replaced Microsoft Imagine Academy. This new learning platform offers you an opportunity to improve your IT Skills at your own pace. You can dip in and out of what you want to learn as well as discovering things you may not have known previously.
