Using Microsoft Teams

Did you know that all students have access to Microsoft Teams for free? All you need is your University login and you can get started straight away with one of the most useful collaboration tools around!

If you are used to using Skype then you will be familiar with some of the features of Teams already.

1. Download the App on your phone

Teams is available across lots of devices, but it’s very useful on your phone where you can chat, collaborate and share files on the go, wherever you are in the world.

2. Use Teams to help your group work

Teams is primarily a collaborative tool to help you work better with other people. Setup a team for your group project and from there you can share and work on files together, keep all of our discussions in one place and even host group voice and video chats.

3. Make use of the chat function

There is a great chat tool which allows you to message anyone else using Teams – think of it as WhatsApp but without needing someone’s phone number. You can also speak to University staff too, including your personal tutor. It’s good for informal chat – we recommend keeping anything official or urgent on email!

4. Record your meetings

There’s no need to make notes when you are having a group meeting – Teams can record everything for you to watch back on demand!

5. Check out the other apps within Teams

There's lots of other tools within Teams and Microsoft 365 to help you with getting organised, including Planner (great for sharing tasks within a Team) and OneNote (think of this as a digital notebook - useful in lectures!).

You can access these apps within Teams but you can also download them on your desktop/laptop and mobile devices.
