Campus upkeep

We need your help to keep our campus looking beautiful all year round.

Keeping your campus clean

Help us keep our campus clean by reporting any spillages, overflowing bins and picking up any litter that you find.

Report an issue

Report any cleaning issues by emailing our housekeeping team. This inbox is monitored Monday to Friday, 5am - 11pm. If it’s an emergency outside of these hours please call Campus Safety on +44 (0)1483 683333.

Log a maintenance request if something has broken and needs fixing.

Being sustainable

As a university we are continuously trying to reduce our environmental footprint and there are lots of steps we are taking to become a more sustainable campus and encourage you to help us get there.

Rubbish and recycling

We aim to avoid waste wherever possible, but if that’s not possible we encourage recycling and its safe disposal.

Where to put your rubbish

Across campus we have three main waste streams, each with designated bins:

  • Glass
  • Food waste (including compostable packing)
  • General waste and recycling.

All general waste and recycling can be placed into the same bin as this is collected by our waste contractor and segregated at their waste and recycling centre.

All bins are emptied across campus routinely from Monday to Friday.

Displaying of posters across campus

Note: outside of the student election campaigns, additional agreements are in place.

Please be aware that the display of posters is monitored across the University of Surrey campus whilst we strive to make the environment enjoyable and tidy for everyone. Any posters or notices that are displayed that don’t adhere to the conditions below are likely to be removed by the Estates and Facilities team.

Please do:

  • Display posters on the approved notice boards and in common rooms
  • Secure with blu-tac or an equivalent
  • Remove posters within five days of the event having taken place
  • Ensure posters bear the contact details of the organising committee or student body.

Please do not:

  • Display your posters using sellotape or glue
  • Place posters in corridors or stairwells, as they are considered to be a fire hazard
  • Place your posters on bus stops, smoking shelters, toilet cubicles or bicycle shelters
  • Secure your posters to trees, shrubs or any other plants by any means
  • Cover up other in-date posters.
