Exam checklist
Follow our exam checklist to ensure you are prepared and confident going into your exams.
1 to 2 weeks before your exams
Get organised, get conďŹdent
- Check your exam timetable on My Dashboard (Surrey Learn)
- ConďŹrm dates, start times, durations, and locations
- Identify in-person vs. online exams
- Make a revision plan covering:
- Key topics for each module
- Realistic daily goals
- Breaks and rest days

- Donât forget to check how to avoid Academic Misconduct, especially for online exams
- Re-read module handbooks and assessment guidance
- Practice with past exam papers where available

Technology and access
- Test your Surrey IT login, email, and SurreyLearn access
- For online exams:
- Ensure your laptop is fully working
- Test webcam/microphone (if required)
- Check for a stable internet connection
- Know who to contact for IT support if something goes wrong
- Read through the SUâs technical difficulties page for guidance.
Reasonable adjustments and support
- Check any Exam Arrangements/Reasonable Adjustments are conďŹrmed (the deadline has passed to request adjustments but drop-in details are available on the Disability and Neuroinclusion webpages)
- Contact your Faculty Student Support Team if anything looks incorrect
- Familiarise yourself with the EC circumstances processes, just in case
- Check the Donât Worry Surrey Exam Support Hub page for any further support from the University and Studentsâ Union.
Wellbeing and balance
- Plan regular sleep, meals, and movement.
- Book study spaces early if needed.
- Save support contacts:
3 to 5 days before each exam
- Reduce stress by preparing early.
Exam logistics
- Verify the exact exam location/online link
- Plan to arrive 15â30 minutes early
- Plan your route to campus or exam venue
- Check parking, buses, trains, or walking times.
What youâll need
- Valid University ID card. Lost your card?
- Pens, pencils, ruler, calculator (if permitted)
- Water bottle (label removed if required)
- Any approved materials
- Clear pencil case (if required).
Revision focus
- Shift from learning new content to:
- Reviewing summaries
- Practicing exam-style questions
- Preparing quick revision notes or ďŹashcards.
Look after yourself
- Stick to a regular sleep routine
- Eat balanced meals (donât skip!)
- Reduce caffeine the day before
- Take breaks and join a Donât Worry Surrey event to help relax.
The day before your exam
- Prepare, donât panic
- Charge devices fully (especially for online exams)
- Lay out clothes and exam items, check you have everything you need.
Revision
- Light review only â no cramming.
- Focus on:
- Key formulas
- Essay plans
- DeďŹnitions and concepts.
Wind down
- Take a break from revision in the evening.
- Do something relaxing (walk, music, stretching).
- Aim for 7â9 hours of sleep.
On the day of your exam
Before you leave
- Eat breakfast
- Bring ID, a bottle of water and exam materials. Lost your card?
- Leave early to allow for delays.
At the exam venue
- Arrive calmly and on time
- Follow invigilator instructions carefully
- Listen out for announcements
- Ask questions if you are unsure
- Turn off your phone and leave it in your bag, nowhere near you or your desk!
- You may see exam cards on the tables with Doâs and Donâts - have a look through for last checks.
For online exams
- Log in early
- Close unnecessary tabs/apps
- Keep contact details for IT Helpdesk nearby
- Something goes wrong? Follow the steps on the SUâs Technical Difficulties page.
During the exam
- Read questions carefully
- Manage time per question
- Answer what you know ďŹrst
- If stuck, move on and return later.
After the exam
- Reset and recover
