University regulations require students to participate fully in the work of their programme and attend their timetabled sessions. It is therefore expected that you will attend all lectures, tutorials and seminars that are on your timetable as well as completing required assessments.
We want you to feel supported to fully engage with your learning, so we have a number of proactive processes in place to help you reach your potential. These include MySurrey Engagement, a platform which supports you to review your own learning engagement and MySurrey Attendance (MSA) which allows you to log your attendance or report an absence at timetabled teaching sessions. These resources are there to support you and give you useful feedback. We want to ensure you are on track with your course.
For those students with Disabilities or Neurodiversities, you may have reasonable adjustments which impact on your attendance, please discuss this with your Personal Tutor or Student Success Coach.
If you are studying on a Student or Tier 4 visa or on an accredited course, the University will use data from MySurrey Attendance to monitor engagement as part of our reporting requirements. If you do not check-in, we may be unable to provide accurate data to the relevant regulatory bodies or authorities. If you are on a course that has mandatory modules as part of your accreditation, you are expected to attend these sessions.
We understand that occasionally there may be technical issues with logging your attendance on My Surrey Attendance or isolated cases of attendance being missed. Provided your overall engagement profile is strong, this would not normally cause us concern. However, if you believe your attendance is not being accurately captured by the MSA app, or if you are feeling anxious about your attendance we advise letting your Personal Tutor or Student Success Coach know. They work with our central support teams and can liase with them on your behalf and provide further help or support if needed.
