Bank letters

For you to open a student account with a bank, you'll need a bank letter from us as proof of your student status and term time address.

Opening a bank account

There are 3 simple steps you need to complete we can issue you a bank letter:

  1. Complete main registration, which usually takes place during Welcome Week.
  2. Decide which bank you wish to open an account with. If you are not too sure on which bank to go with, below is some really useful guidance which may help you decide.

      3. Visit Surrey Support and select "I need a letter from the University". Once generated, a copy of the letter will be emailed to you for you to print out and deliver to your chosen bank.

Please note that if you are living in University accommodation, we cannot provide this letter until our system reflects this with your term time address. This can take up to 24-48 hours after you have arrived in your room.
