We know that kickstarting your career can be a daunting prospect, so we have introduced SurreyConnects – your place to connect with Surrey alumni and find a career mentor.

Introducing SurreyConnects

What is SurreyConnects?

Think LinkedIn but Surrey exclusive! It’s an online, networking, and mentoring platform where you can:

  • Search for Surrey alumni professionals in a range of industries across the globe who have been in your shoes and can offer great tips and advice.
  • Chat to alumni via messaging or video chat and take part in our ‘Three Cups of Coffee’ scheme – an opportunity to have three one-hour virtual coffees with a mentor to ask them about their industry, gain tips and tricks and reflect upon your future career.
  • Keep up to date with University news and updates.
  • Find upcoming events and job vacancies.

All of our mentors have agreed to join the platform to support you and were once in your shoes, so can offer the best advice tailored to your interests or career plans.

It’s free to sign up and you can retain access once you have graduated, and maybe even become a mentor yourself one day!

How to I sign up?

Visit the SurreyConnects website and sign up using your LinkedIn profile or personal email address* – it couldn’t be easier to perk-up your job prospects!

* We recommend using this rather than your Surrey email address so that you can retain access after you have graduated.

Student mentoring programmes

International student mentoring programme

This programme is designed to help those in our amazing global community here at Surrey. This exciting initiative connects you with your own mentor on SurreyConnects from our outstanding network of Surrey alumni who are eager to share their experiences and expertise.

With the support of our global alumni mentors, you’ll gain invaluable insights to help you navigate life and career opportunities in the UK and beyond. Whether you’re seeking advice on visas, working in the UK or abroad, or career planning, our mentors are dedicated to helping you achieve your goals and thrive during and after your time at Surrey. They understand the challenges of studying in a new environment and are passionate about supporting your academic and professional growth.

Joining the programme is simple! Fill out the sign-up form to express your interest, and our Alumni Team will guide you through the next steps. Once enrolled, you’ll receive detailed instructions on how to connect with your mentor and make the most of this opportunity.

First year students mentoring programme

You don’t have to leave it until your final year to start thinking about your future careers, that’s why we’ve launched the First-Year Students Mentoring programme. We know the word ‘mentoring’ might sound daunting, but we want it to be an opportunity where you can get a head start compared to other first-years in the country. Not all universities have a ‘SurreyConnects’ so you have exclusive access to career advice from our alumni.

If you join today, you can ask our alumni any questions about future careers or the placement year application process. We can’t emphasise the importance of networking and gaining that invaluable career support, sign up now

'Ask an Alum'

‘Ask an Alum’ is any programme where you can network and connect with a graduate. We run many Ask an Alum initiatives so there’s always something for you on SurreyConnects.

Our ‘Ask an Alum’ live events are where you can speed network with our fantastic alumni in person on campus over tea and cake. We typically do subject based events so you can ask graduates that studied the same subject as you about their careers. This is a great way to expand your network within the Surrey community!

We also have named our general programmes on SurreyConnects ‘Ask an Alum’. This is where you don’t need to be studying a certain subject or be part of a specific group to be paired with a mentor on the platform. You can simply fill in this form and our team will match you with the perfect graduate to chat to on the platform. We want networking to be as easy as possible for you so sign up now!

What students are saying...

"SurreyConnects is a great platform, with a good layout and the inbuilt video chat and messaging is brilliant. Once I got over the fear of reaching out it was simple. I have had one really good first virtual meeting and have three more booked in!"

Josh, BSc Mathematics

"I wasn’t sure what to expect when I signed up to SurreyConnects, but once I set up my profile and saw the extensive list of alumni, I thought wow! Anyone should jump at the chance to chat to someone who has been through what we are going through now."

Serena, LLB Law and Criminology

"I didn’t expect such a wonderful mentor – she even helped me get a marketing internship at a firm in London. You should (and I can’t stress enough) sign up to SurreyConnects!"

Laura, BSc Business Management
