Life after undergraduate study

Graduation can often feel like the end of an era, leaving students wondering ‘what’s next?’ There are many routes you can take after university. Take a look at what support is available to you when considering your next options.

Continue your studies

You may decide postgraduate study at Surrey is the best step forward in helping you to further your level of specialist knowledge and skills. From literature to engineering, the pursuit of knowledge improves the world we live in. And a masters degree from Surrey gives you the edge in building a better future. Get an insight on why you should choose Surrey for your postgraduate study.  

NB: If you’re a Surrey graduate, you could also be eligible for a 20% discount on postgraduate taught programme fees.

Kickstart your career

In your final year you’ll naturally be thinking more about life after Surrey and the professional route you might take. Our Employability and Careers team are here to prepare you for whatever you might want to do next.

For those looking to remain in the UK and find a job after their studies, the Graduate Route Visa (also known as the Post-Study Work Visa) will be available for all international students who successfully complete their course within the term of their Student Visa. Boosting your employability

Our Employability and Careers team are here to help as you enter the world of work. As a graduate you’re also welcome to book appointments with the Employment and Careers team up to three years after you have graduated and you’ll have lifetime access to all the development tools on Surrey Pathfinder.

It’s important to spend some time clarifying what roles and areas interest you the most as this will provide focus for your graduate job search.  

Map out your key strengths

Building a strong sense of self can strengthen your applications and enable you to stand out in interviews.

From career planning and understanding the hidden job market, to help with writing an effective CV and cover letter â€“ our huge range of career guidance resources are the best place to start.  

It’s important to ensure you’re putting your best self forward and tailoring your CV for each submission. We also offer regular LinkedIn checks to help support your profile development.
