The report reflects on Surrey’s success in the THE impact ranking, placing in the top 5% of universities globally. The ranking measures institutions against the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and emphasises Surrey’s commitment to delivering all 17 goals.
Professor Bob Nichol, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Executive Dean (FEPS), celebrates the University's THE success: "To be ranked among the top 5% of universities in the THE Impact Rankings is a source of great pride for our whole University. These rankings, which couldn’t be more important to us, reflect our contribution towards a sustainable future for our planet".
Along with ranking success, the report details the University’s continued drive to reach net zero carbon. The University has made significant progress against its 8-point plan, reducing scope 1 & 2 emissions by 19% in comparison to the baseline year.
Martin Wiles, Head of Sustainability, highlights the University's continued drive to get to net zero carbon: "The University has made significant steps on its carbon reduction journey, tackling all 8 of the points in our net zero carbon plan for scope 1 and 2 emissions – from reducing our energy demand, to transitioning to renewable energy".
Other key highlights include work to embed sustainability into the University’s eight policies, as well as significant development of staff and student sustainability engagement – including the launch of the University’s very first Sustainability Awards.
