In addition to the amazing memories you’ll make while abroad, you could also pick up skills and experiences including:

  • Learning a language and discovering a new culture
  • Making new friends and expanding your network
  • Enhancing your employability

Competitive grants and scholarships are available to contribute towards the costs of going abroad. Students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds can apply for funding through grants such as the Turing Scheme for opportunities between 14 days and 12 months.

 

Attend the Study and Work Abroad Fair

Attend the Study and Work Abroad Fair on Thursday 20 November for the chance to chat with students who have previously undertaken a placement or study exchange abroad and learn about summer programmes, internships and volunteering. Chat with other Surrey support services and attend spotlight presentations on budgeting, grants and scholarships

How to apply to go abroad

For support with finding a professional training placement abroad, we encourage you to reach out to the placements team.

Applications for study exchanges, FHMS research lab placements and summer programmes will open in late November. Deadline: 23.59pm Tuesday 3 February 2026
