About the illustrations
*The illustrations in this room are from the Archives and Special Collections Department based in the Library.
The University of Surrey holds collections related to the illustrator E.H. Shepard, most renowned for illustrating Winnie-the-Pooh. The collections include: his personal archive, which is rich in artwork, manuscripts, correspondence, photographs and more; The Shepard Trust Archive, with a strong focus on his time as an officer in WWI and illustrations for a range of publications; and the HarperCollins Publishers Limited Collection, which is on long term loan to the University.
This last collection includes the original hand-coloured illustrations for the first colour editions of Winnie-the-Pooh and The House at Pooh Corner as well as The Wind in the Willows.
We are grateful to The Shepard Trust and publisher Harper Collins, the copyright owners of these illustrations, for granting permission to use the artwork and text to decorate this room.
