Smoking on campus

The University operates a smoking policy (PDF), which applies to all students and visitors on campus.

Smoking around campus

The aim is to help protect people from the harmful effects of passive smoking and to encourage students to consider quitting.

Whilst vaping is acceptable across campus outside, we would ask that you do not vape within two metres of offices and teaching spaces.

If you need to smoke please do so in one of the designated smoking shelters:

Smoking in halls of residence

Smoking is not permitted inside any of the residences. This refers to all types of smoking including tobacco, shisha and cannabis. This is for health and safety reasons, legal implications (for cannabis) and also for the consideration of your fellow residents. We would recommend that you speak to the person, or people, who are smoking inside their rooms or kitchen and kindly ask them to refrain from doing so.

If you witness other students smoking in halls of residences then please get in touch with the Campus Safety team.
