If on the day of your exam, you are feeling unwell, we recommend that you submit a self-certified application for extenuating circumstances (EC) before the start of the exam. You will not need evidence for this and completing a self-certified application before the exam has started will allow you to defer the exam attempt to the next available reassessment period (providing you have not already used a self-certified EC application during that semester).

If you are not able to submit a self-certified EC application before the start of the exam, you will need to submit an evidenced application. It doesn't matter if you don't have evidence at that point, you can add evidence to the application once you have it (ideally within 5 working days of submitting the application).

Approved extenuating circumstance (EC) applications for exams or tests will always defer the exam or test to the next available assessment period. We cannot offer an extension for exams or tests.

You can submit your EC application through Surrey Self-Service. You can find out more on how to submit your application our Extenuating Circumstances pages.
