In the first instance you should contact the International Student Advice Team to discuss any implications for your visa.
The University will endeavour to use your preferred or ‘chosen’ name and affirmed gender as far as possible in line with visa requirements.
Guidance from the Home Office states that the name on your eVisa will be issued in the same name as that on your passport. To change the name on your passport, you will need proof of legal name change such as a statutory declaration or evidence of a deed poll. If you are a transgender person from a country that does not recognise changes to your name or gender and therefore you are unable to change your name on your passport, the Home Office will issue an eVisa in your acquired name provided you can show that you are using your acquired name and gender for all purposes.
Please note that this could affect students from the European Union, please check the current situation with the International Student Advice Team.
You can contact the International Student Advice Team in two ways:
If you have a support plan in place, the member of staff who is supporting you through this can liaise with the team on your behalf
You can raise a ticket yourself with the MySurrey Hive team on Surrey Support and select “International Advice and Visas” as your enquiry topic. Please note that with this option, your ticket will need to be triaged by MySurrey Hive Assistants and will therefore be seen by other members of staff. If you are not comfortable with this and do not have a support plan in place, please contact the Student Success and EDI team via email SSEDI@surrey.ac.uk
