Societies and Clubs who achieved the Sustainability Mark were celebrated at the Surrey Students’ Union (SU) Colours and Union Ball in May 2026.

The Sustainability Mark is an annual awards scheme run in collaboration with Surrey Students’ Union and the University’s Sustainability Team and is open to all societies and clubs. It provides students with five sustainable actions they can take to reduce their group’s negative environmental impacts. It also empowers them to make a positive difference to sustainability at the University as well as in the local community.
Actions within the scheme include encouraging members to live more sustainably and running activities in a more environmentally conscious way.
For the scheme’s second year, 22 different societies and clubs got involved, with 7 of them achieving a Sustainability Mark. A range of actions were taken, including

It’s great to see the incredible work our clubs and societies have put in to be more sustainable over the past year. As a Sustainable Development graduate myself, it’s a pleasure to see how many other students care about the environment and the steps taken to keep their groups sustainable.”
