Wates House to be transformed into JD Wetherspoon pub

The University is delighted to announce that we will be welcoming JD Wetherspoon to campus this academic year, giving you access to their great value food and drink offering right here on the Stag Hill campus.

With a planned opening in May 2026, you will be able to take a break from revision and exams to experience: 

  • A brand-new, vibrant pub within Wates House.
  • The same great value food and drink menu that you see in other "Spoons" pub across the UK.
  • All day food service, from breakfast through to dinner, with affordable prices.
  • Popular meal deals, including bargain breakfasts and burger and a drink combos.
  • Mobile app ordering and speedy table service. 

We are also pleased to announce that, thanks to kind permission from the Wates Family, the pub will be named “The Sir Ronald Wates”, helping us continue the building’s long-standing connection to the Wates family. 

We’ll be sharing more details, including a confirmed opening date, in the coming months - so keep an eye out for updates.
