Whether you live in halls, or are based off-campus, switching off lights and equipment before leaving for the festive break can save on energy costs whilst reducing your environmental impact. Unsure of what you can turn off? Look out for green switch off stickers on lights and equipment across campus.
If you're going away for the holidays, plan your meals to avoid unnecessary food waste. Any leftover non-perishable items that you no longer need over the winter break can be donated to local food banks. The nearest drop off point is Tesco Superstore, Ashenden Road, GU2 7UN.
Having a sort out before Christmas? Be sure to head over to the SU's Community Hub with any clothes, homeware or books you don't need. You can also donate items to the British Heart Foundation and Phyllis Tuckwell at various donation bins across campus.
Check your taps and shower heads before leaving for the holidays. One running tap uses 6 litres of water a minute - that's 360 litres per hour! To save on your utility bills, and reduce your water consumption, switch off your taps and showers.
