Dr Lisa Morrison (she/her) is a lecturer in the School of Mathematics and Physics at the University of Surrey. Here research background is in experimental nuclear physics with a primary interest is in nuclear structure, specifically using the technique of Coulomb Excitation to probe the structures and shapes of nuclei. Her research involves collaboration with groups in Europe, the US, Canada, Australia, and South Africa, and participation in experiments involving nuclear astrophysics and nuclear structure physics. In her role as Senior Personal Tutor, she supports students facing academic, physical, or mental health challenges, and is committed to fostering a sense of safety, belonging, and community throughout her students' university experience. Lisa is an active member of the Rainbow Network at Surrey and one of the organisers of the LGBTQ+ STEM Day events.
Dr Riccardo Maddalena (He/Him/His) is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Civil Engineering at Cardiff University, a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), and a Chartered Engineer, Scientist, and Environmentalist. His research focuses on low-carbon cements, self-healing and biomimetic infrastructure materials, and the durability and life cycle assessment of sustainable construction systems. Riccardo's research on waste recycling in cementitious material, the WASTEREBUILT project was the shortlisted for the 2024 sustainable future award of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining. He's currently investigating the use of battery grade lithium waste as cement replacement in construction. He directs DURALAB, Wales’s first interdisciplinary durability testing facility, and contributes to the RESCOM Research Group and Cardiff Materials Research Network. A strong advocate for equality, diversity, and inclusion in STEMM, he serves as Director of EDI at the School of Engineering and is a proud LGBTQ+ member.
