GSA Performance: Dying For It
A darkly funny tale of desperation, absurdity, and the price of hope.
A darkly funny tale of desperation, absurdity, and the price of hope.
Semyon is out of work, out of luck, and dangerously close to giving up. But when word spreads that he’s planning to end it all, a colourful parade of neighbours, opportunists, and ideologues descend on his tiny apartment – each eager for him to die for their cause.
Moira Buffini’s razor-sharp adaptation of Erdman’s banned Soviet satire crackles with biting humour and tragic absurdity, in a story that skewers the politics of power, the desperation of the forgotten, and the absurd lengths people will go for a little meaning in their lives. Will Semyon become a martyr, a hero…or just a man pushed too far?
This live production features BA Acting final year students in collaboration with BA Theatre Production and MA Stage Management students.
