Our top tips for staying safe at university:

  • Drink responsibly
  • Have the Campus Safety team's contact number on your mobile: +44 (0) 1483 683333
  • Use an App to track your location, such as Hollie Guard or Life360.
  • Be aware of your surroundings โ€“ earphones and phones distract you from what is going on around you

Please come to Campus Safety if you are worried or concerned about yours or someone elseโ€™s safety.

It is also important to remember that you are now living in accommodation with a lot of people you do not know, so do not assume you can leave your doors and windows open and everything will be fine. While Guildford and the University is a low crime area, it is not a no crime area.

Safety points to remember are:

  • Always lock your bedroom and flat/house door when you are not in and make sure windows are shut and locked. One in three burglaries occur when doors and windows have been left open.
  • Keep your keys and room fobs safe and do not give them to anyone else.
  • Do not let anyone you do not know follow you in through a secure door.
  • Do not leave personal items (like phones, laptops or purses) unattended in communal areas, particularly cafes, bars, the Library or study areas โ€“ even if you're just going to be a couple of minutes. That is all it takes.
  • If you spot anything suspicious on campus call Campus Safety on +44 (0) 1483 683333, or off campus call the Police (999 Emergency or 101 non-emergency).
