The University’s commitment to graduate employability, student satisfaction, and widening participation was celebrated at the Times Higher Education Awards ceremony on Thursday 28 November, after Surrey was shortlisted for ‘University of the Year’.
President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Max Lu and colleagues attended the ceremony at Birmingham’s International Conference Centre, capping an impressive run of accolades in 2024.
Surrey was pipped to the award by Ulster University, which also saw off stiff competition in the category from London Metropolitan University, University of Leicester, University of Stirling and University of Sunderland.
Surrey also featured in the category ‘Research Project of the Year’, where Professor Carrie Newlands was shortlisted for her work tackling sexual misconduct in the surgical professions.
President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Max Lu said: “I am truly thrilled and very proud that the University of Surrey was shortlisted for University of the Year - a great tribute to the students, staff and our whole community.
“The University is committed and dedicated to delivering outstanding student experience and producing highly employable graduates from a wide range of backgrounds. We are also delivering research that has a positive impact in the world.
“Thanks to the determination and contributions of our community, we will continue to tackle local and global challenges by pushing boundaries and creating meaningful change, and in so doing we will shape the world for a better future.”
