We’re recruiting 40 Student Callers to join the University of Surrey’s 2027 Telephone Fundraising Campaign.
About the role
As a Student Caller, you’ll speak with Surrey alumni by telephone, build positive relationships, share University news and invite them to support The Forever Surrey Fund. You’ll receive full training and ongoing support, so you don’t need previous fundraising or telephone experience.
As a Student Caller, you will:
- Earn £14.98 per hour (including accrued holiday pay), with fully paid training
- Work remotely – complete training and shifts from the comfort of your home
- Boost your CV – gain valuable experience and earn a reference from the Advancement Office
- Develop transferable skills – including communication, persuasion, and networking
- Gain career insights – speak with alumni about their experiences and advice
- Make an impact – every call helps support students through scholarships, hardship grants, and funding for clubs and societies
Campaign Dates
The campaign will run from Saturday 6 February to Sunday 7 March 2027. You will be expected to work three shifts per week:
- Two weekday evening shifts (5:45pm to 9pm)
- One weekend shift (Saturday 11:45am – 6pm or Sunday 1:45pm – 8pm)
All successful applicants must attend both training sessions:
- Saturday 6 February, 9:00am–4:00pm
- Sunday 7 February, 9:00am–4:00pm
What we’re looking for
You’ll be a strong candidate if you are:
- A current University of Surrey student
- Confident and comfortable speaking on the telephone
- Friendly, professional and able to build rapport quickly
- A good listener who can adapt conversations to different people
- Reliable, organised and able to commit to the required training and shifts
- Comfortable using a computer and entering information accurately
Previous experience in fundraising, customer service, sales, telephone work or recruitment is useful but not essential.
