We have a selection of services that can support you if you are experiencing financial difficulties.

Cost of living support

We know that your financial challenges are greater than ever this year. Rising costs of bills, food and transport are affecting us all.

We have launched our let's talk finance hub for advice, support and information about what the University and the Students' Union is doing to help you save money.

Debt

Are you concerned about debt or debts? The Money Support team provides free and confidential one-to-one guidance.

The service

We can meet with you to discuss the issue and signpost you to relevant external support networks, depending on the nature of your query. We can also help you with many other things which can move your situation forward, such as:

  • Identifying problem areas of spending
  • Application to the Hardship Fund
  • Applications to other organisations, such as educational trusts and charities
  • Checking the level of your statutory student funding
  • Checking your benefits and council tax relief levels
  • Advice on tax, including possibility of tax refunds.
Blackbullion

Learn everything there is to know about debt, from credit scores to how to calculate your interest rates. Start building a good credit score, and if you're already in debt (other than your student loan), don't panic! You will gain useful information on how to deal with it through Blackbullion.

Funding, bursaries and awards

University of Surrey Hardship Fund

This means-tested funding aims to help students complete their studies whilst in financial difficulty. Find out if you're eligible.

Tonmeister Financial Hardship Fund

Emeritus Professor Dave Fisher set up the Tonmesiter Financial Hardship Fund to support Tonmeister students on their placement year. Learn more about the fund and how to apply.
