If you have travelled outside of the UK or you have recently changed your number or mobile phone, you will need to change your multi-factor authentification (MFA) set up.

To change your MFA setup visit the set up page. Then choose from one or more of the following options:

  • Use a Smart phone with the Microsoft Authenticator app. This is the University's preferred method. You need access to wi-fi or a mobile phone signal. To avoid receiving text messages whilst roaming, please use the Authenticator App whilst connected to wi-fi.
  • Use a mobile phone (not a smart phone) which can receive texts or phone calls and preferably on the local phone service.
  • Use a fixed/landline phone – but you will need to be near this phone to answer it, when authenticating.

If you are experiencing any problems with setting up or using MFA, please call the IT Service Desk (+44 (0) 1483 689898), or if you are unable to call, please contact the IT Services team via Surrey Support and supply the following information so we can identify who you are:

  • Last 4 digits of your current phone used for MFA
  • Supply your student number
  • Copy of your student ID (by sending a photograph or scan of your card), or if this is not available, please supply a copy of your passport for ID purposes.

We will never ask you for your password under any circumstances.
