If you are an international student on a student visa, you can undertake a work placement that is recognised as a formal part of your degree programme. This can be taken on a full-time basis, even during semester time. Formal placements do not have an upper limit for the number of hours that can be worked in a week, other than what is set out in UK employment law. We recommend that you check with your employer for details on any contractual maximum hours.

You can also undertake other additional employment alongside your formal work placement, however this additional employment is subject to the usual maximum of 20 hours per week during semester time.
