How to make your exam day stress free

We know exams can be stressful. Taking a moment to prepare and knowing what to expect can help your day run smoothly so you can tackle your exam with confidence!

Check any exam adjustments needed are in place

Your adjustments should be shown on your exam timetable. If you’re unsure or can’t see them, you can drop into a Disability and Neuroinclusion session

You can also get in touch with MySurreyHive via Surrey Support. Select "Disability and Neuroinclusion" as your topic and the team will be happy to check on the system for you.

Pack a bag in advance

Getting organised the night before can make your morning much easier. Make sure you’ve packed:

  • Your student card
  • Stationery
  • A calculator (if needed)
  • A bottle of water

Don’t forget your student card

You’ll need your student card for your exam. If you can’t find it, don’t worry! You can create an exam confirmation ID instead.

  • Go to the University Letters and Exam Slips page and select “Autogenerate an exam slip now”
  • You’ll receive your exam slip by email, which you can print
  • If you’re printing from your phone, email the document (from your University email) to print@surrey.ac.uk to access it from a campus printer

If you’re having trouble printing, visit MySurrey Hive and a team member will help you.

Make sure you know where your exam will be held

Your exam location can be found on your exam timetable and you can find your seat on the relevant SurreyLearn module page, within the "Course Materials" tab.

Plan your journey

You should aim to arrive at your exam venue at least 20 minutes before your exam starts so make sure to plan your journey to campus with plenty of time and check for any traffic delays or train issues.

If you arrive late, you may have less time or not be able to sit the exam.

Treat yourself with kindness

Your wellbeing is more important than any exam result. To help you feel more relaxed stepping into an exam, you may find it useful to:

  • Listen to gentle music on the way to your exam
  • Take deep breaths or practice mindfulness
  • Make sure you’ve had enough to eat and drink

If you’ve still got questions about your exam, have a look at MySurrey Help for more information. For in person support, come along to our drop in sessions as listed on the Don’t Worry Surrey hub.
