Four ways to save water

Ahead of the UN’s World Water Day, Sustainable Surrey highlight 4 ways you can reduce your water consumption.

Published:

Take on the shower challenge:

Taking a 4 minute shower can save over 28,000 litres of water annually! Simply pop-up on your favourite song, jump in the shower and give it a go!

Report leaks:

A leaking tap can waste up to 5,500 litres of water a year – enough to fill a paddling pool every week! Help the University reduce water being wasted by reporting leaks to the Estates Team.

Turn off taps:

Remember to turn off taps after use. Turning off taps whilst brushing your teeth, for instance, saves nearly 800 litres of water a month – enough to fill a small fish tank!

Run full loads:

Washing machines usually use the same amount of water regardless of load size. By putting a full load in the washing machine, you can reduce the number of washes done each week, saving up to 3,000 litres of water annually!
