Update: Yorkie's Bridge has reopened

Update 18 February 2026: Yorkie's Bridge has now reopened following emergency gas works.

Published:

Southern Gas Networks have completed the work, and the Bridge is now accessible for all students to use.

Why was Yorkie's Bridge closed for so long?

The Bridge is almost 100 years old and therefore in need of extensive works to keep it safe and accessible.

The work is also being conducted over a live major railway line, with gas pipelines that serve a significant part of our campus. Therefore, it's a complex piece of work to undertake, and safety is paramount.

Unfortunately, the timing of the closure is out of the University’s control, but we are in regular contact with Southern Gas Networks to assist and ensure the project happens as quickly and safely as possible.

Where is Yorkie's Bridge?

It’s the Bridge located next to Millennium House/the Health Centre and takes you onto Walnut Tree Close over the railway line.
