Regulations and policies

We kindly ask that you follow our regulations and policies to ensure everyone using the Library gets the best experience.

Rules to follow

  • You should behave with courtesy and respect for other Library users and staff and abide by the Library Code of Conduct and the Customer Charter at all times.
  • Hot food is not permitted in the Library.
  • Study spaces may not be reserved, and belongings left unattended for prolonged periods may be removed by library or security staff.
  • Group study rooms booked and not occupied after the start of the booked session may be used by other students for the duration of the session.
  • The Library accepts no responsibility for loss, theft or damage to personal property in the Library at any time.
  • When you leave the Library with books or bags you must show them to library staff on request, or when triggering an exit alarm.
  • You must leave the Library immediately on hearing the fire alarm or when required to do so by a member of staff in an emergency.

Accessing the Library

You are a member of the Library and can use the full range of facilities and services.

You must produce a valid university campus card to enter the Library and are responsible for all items issued in your name, you are also responsible for the safekeeping of your card and may be charged replacement costs if it is lost or damaged.

It is your responsibility to ensure your contact details are correct and you must inform the University of any change of address.

You must produce your campus card if requested to do so by a member of staff.

Use of Library facilities and resources

You must not write in, damage, or vandalise, any item of Library property.

Use of electronic information resources (e-journals, e-books and databases) must conform to the licensing regulations indicated by each publisher or supplier.

Copies of print material can only be made in accordance with the provisions of the Copyright Designs and Patents Act (1988), see the copyright and you page for more information.

Mains-powered equipment (e.g. laptops) must be tested for electrical safety by you and you will be held responsible for any damage to Library property as a result.

Penalties

Use of the Library is on the understanding that Library and IT policies are followed. The University may impose fines and other penalties, e.g. suspension of borrowing rights, if these regulations are not observed.

The Library reserves the right to impose penalties for misconduct in accordance with the University’s Student Disciplinary Regulations. This does not affect the Library’s right to levy fines for late return of items.

The University reserves the right to take legal action against individuals who cause it to become involved in legal proceedings as a result of violation of its licensing agreements.
